Tameshia V. Grimes, Ph.D., started her career as a public educator in the late 1990s, serving as a middle school teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator before serving as a division superintendent from the 2019-2020 school year through the 2024-2025 school year. Prior to her career in education, she worked in the public sector, gaining experience in the area of Human Resources.
As a student herself, and unbeknownst to her, Dr. Grimes was mentored by a number of adults: her high school guidance counselor, her forensics coach, and her 12th grade AP English teacher, to name a few. After she graduated and went to college, several faculty members at Randolph-Macon College took her under their wings, mentoring and coaching her to step out of her shyness to take on leadership roles and to try new things.
During her career in education - and also during her time in Human Resources - she had the privilege of working with people who saw potential and encouraged her to take the next step and move up the proverbial ladder, leading eventually to her reaching the highest position one can have in K-12 education: serving as a division superintendent. Throughout her educational career, Dr. Grimes has mentored and coached other teachers, administrators, and those pursuing their credentials in leadership, as well as mentoring students.
Dr. Grimes is a firm believer in the power of positive relationships, acknowledging that we each stand on the shoulders of those who came before us; therefore, it is our responsibility to keep the blessings flowing and not allow the chain to be broken.
