Be An Advocate

MENTOR Virginia serves as the statewide leader for prioritizing issues of concern for the mentoring field and leading advocacy efforts such as Capitol Hill Day every January. MENTOR Virginia aims to mobilize mentoring programs across the state in federal and state advocacy for mentoring. You can help us in these efforts!

Be an Advocate for Mentoring

To bring about resources and public support necessary to expand the field of mentoring, legislators need to know about the positive impact mentoring can have on their districts.  We need the help of mentoring programs and supporters like you to spread the word. There are two main ways that you can help us advocate for expanded funding and resources:

          1.  Participate in Capitol Hill Day

Every January, in honor of National Mentoring Month, mentoring program stakeholders and people who are passionate about youth mentoring meet in Washington D.C. for Capitol Hill Day. Throughout the day, advocates from across the country meet with lawmakers in Congress and the Senate to discuss the need for expanded resources and funding for the youth mentoring field. All talking points and appointment slots are provided by MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership. This is a great annual opportunity to raise your voice and participate in the democratic process!

          2.  Meet with Your Local Legislators

MENTOR Virginia encourages program partners, stakeholders, and those who are passionate about youth mentoring to meet with their local legislators to advocate for the mentoring field.
